Welcome to the SAU 104 Student Services Website.
Currently, our special education coordination is provided by the MSAD 35 school District. If you have any questions regarding Special Services available, please call the Special Services Office at 207-439-9197.
The Office of Special Services' mission is to offer a range of educational programs for eligible students, as mandated by federal law and state statutes. These include services specific to:
Special Education
Homeless and Unaccompanied Youth
English as a Second Language
504 Accommodations
Please know that information regarding public school services provided to New Hampshire school-aged children is available at NH DOE at the Bureau of Special Education Support website here.
Special Education
Special Education provides for the administration of the Child Find system for children with disabilities, as well as for the provision of special education services required to assist students in accessing the general curriculum. SAU 104 provides an array of special education and related services in order to program for eligible students in the least restrictive educational environments.
All determinations of eligibility are made through the Individual Education Program/IEP team process as per federal and state regulations. Determinations of eligibility are made through a multidisciplinary assessment of students who are suspected to have a disability as defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Act and state mandates.
Homeless and Unaccompanied Youth
The Office of Special Services recognizes the district’s responsibility to support students who may be in a situation that includes homelessness. Homeless children and youth are those who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence (as defined by the McKinney-Vento Act).
Families are encouraged to call the Special Services Office to discuss ways in which the district can assist their students should a time of homelessness occur.
English as a Second Language (ESL services)
SAU 104 provides services to students for whom English is a Second Language. These services are guided by state and local policies. English Language Learners (ELL) who are eligible are provided with an LAU plan to support their educational experiences.
A Language Acquisition Plan (ILAP) is developed through a team of teachers who comprise the Language Acquisition Committee at each school. It is the responsibility of this committee to identify students requiring ESL services, evaluate the level(s) of need, and implement and monitor student progress specific to the acquisition of English language skills.
504 Accommodation Plans
Aligned with the Americans with Disabilities Act, SAU 104 provides a system through which students requiring accommodations due to a disability are provided with them. Within each of our schools, administrators, teachers, and other school personnel, as required, serve on 504 teams in order to address the needs of students with disabilities who may require accommodations in order to access learning.
The Special Services office collaborates closely with school principals and staff to ensure that students of SAU 104 receive high-quality educational services throughout their time in the district.
